Jose was born in Níjar, Spain. Having studied trombone at Conservatorio Superior de Música Victoria Eugenia of Granada he completed his training at the Barenboim-Said Foundation Orchestral Academy in Seville with Martin Rehinhart (Staatskapelle Berlin), Brass Academy Alicante with Ricardo Casero (Palau de les Arts Orchestra), Erik Hainzl (Tonkünstler Orchester) and Otmar Gaiswinkler (Wiener Symphoniker) and at Aula de Trombón with Carlos Gil (Jose Iturbi Conservatory) and Indalecio Bonet (Spanish Brass – Luur Metalls).

He had ambitions to further his education and perfect his professional skills. This led him to Belgium, where he successfully completed his Master’s studies at Koninklijk Conservatorium of Brussels with Mr. Bart van Nieuwenhuyze from the Antwerpen Symphony Orchestra.

He then returned to Spain where he started a freelance career focusing on teaching, orchestral playing and chamber music.

Having been a member of Almería Symphony Orchestra for ten years (2009-2019), his orchestral experience includes concerts with other Spanish orchestras such as the Córdoba Symphony Orchestra, Granada Symphony Orchestra or Philharmonic Orchestra of Andalucía. He has also played with the Spanish National Ballet, Víctor Ullate Ballet Company and La Fura dels Baus theater company. In addition, he has collaborated with many European orchestras such as Orchestra Les Musiciens d’Europe, Craiova Symphony Orchestra, New Symphony Orchestra of Lisbon, Zoltan Kodaly World Youth Orchestra and several Belgian orchestras such as the Brussels Philharmonic Orchestra.

He has been fortunate to work with many great conductors, among which can be highlighted Sigiswald Kuijken, Yoav Talmi, Tamás Vásáry, Pablo González, Arturo Tamayo and Gavin Greenaway.

In addition to his work in orchestras, Jose greatly enjoys performing chamber music and is one of the founding members of the Indalbone Quartet, the brass quintet Córdoba Bell Brass and offers recitals spreading the repertoire for trombone and piano with the pianist Virginia Muñoz.

Jose has been invited as guest teacher at various Spanish conservatories and has also delivered masterclasses at prestigious European institutions such as the Royal Conservatory of Brussels (Belgium), the Faculty of Music at the University of Debrecen (Hungary) and the University of Music in Trossingen (Germany). Furthermore, he served as a jury member for the 46th International Brass and Percussion Meeting and Competition in Debrecen, Hungary.

Currently, Jose pursues an active artistic career, while holding a position as professor at Conservatorio Superior de Música Rafael Orozco of Córdoba (Spain) since 2019 and is very proud to be Michael Rath artist.
