Jaime Gonzalez was born in Plainfield,NJ in 1976. At the age of 9 he started playing the trombone and quickly realized that he was hooked. At the age of 13, his family moved to Stuart, Fl which was a cultural shock since the area was primarily listening to Country music, Reggae, Rock and Hip-Hop. There he received great instruction and musical guidance from wonderful teachers in the area such as Rob Roadman, Paul Destito and the late Earle Brauhardt. After winning a few scholarships and Jazz Awards (such as the EMI Latin/Selena Award and the Treasure Coast Jazz Scholarship), Jaime was introduced to Dixieland music by the the Bill Allred’s Classic Jazz Band. A band composed of top Orlando musicians, including John Allred. At that time, Jaime was only really focused on Classical music but was instantly hooked.

In 1996 Jaime decided to move to Orlando, Fl to surround himself with this type of talent. He used his scholarship money to help pay the rent and picked up odd jobs to pay for lessons. He took lessons with as many people as he could such as John Allred, Bill Allred, Dave Steinmeyer, Mark Zauss, Roy Pickering, and many great musicians in the area. He finally received his Bachelor of Arts Degree in Trombone Performance from the University of Central Florida in 2000.

The Central Florida area has provided Jaime with wonderful opportunities to work in a wide variety of genres.

He has worked with Walt Disney World , Universal Studios, Carnival Cruise Lines, Jimmy Buffett, wedding and convention bands, multiple studio recordings, the Orlando Symphony Orchestra, various Salsa Cruises and a wide range of churches.

In 1998 Jaime was introduced to a few Salsa bands in the area. His true Salsa education began when he joined the 4 trombone band of Cuco Reyes y Su Orquesta Vibracion. Combining what he learned of Classical music and Jazz , Jaime approached Salsa very differently and quickly started to make a name for himself. Since then, he has played with  Latin Artists such as La India, Jerry Rivera, Daniela Darcourt, Andy Montañez, David Kada, Jose Alberto “El Canario”, Ismael Miranda, Tito Rojas, Fernando Varela’s PBS Special, Tito Puente Jr., Puerto Rican Power, Luisito Carrion, 33DC, Puchi Colon, Cuto Soto, Eddie Santiago, Hector Tricoche, Frankie Ruiz Jr., Cano Estremera, Michael Stuart, Tony Vega, Tito Gomez, Roberto Blades, Raulin Rosendo, Anthony Cruz, Brenda K. Jaime is currently performing around the world on the Tito Nieves 50th Anniversary Tour.

In September 2025, Jaime reached his 40th year of playing the trombone. He understands the importance of helping others reach their musical potential, as well as giving back to the community by holding master classes and giving private instruction. From growing up in New Jersey to then moving to Florida, Jaime has been deeply influenced and has performed in just about every genre there is. Jaime’s trombone playing… combined with his professionalism, attitude, and dependability makes him one of Florida’s top call trombone players.
