Ben Haslam

Ben Haslam

Originally from Newcastle, trombonist Ben Haslam began his musical journey in local wind and big bands across the Northeast of England.

Ben was awarded a scholarship to study at the Royal Academy of Music in London, where he is under the tutelage of Peter Moore and Matt Gee, as well as Jim Maynard and Ian Bousfield.

Having held the position of principal trombone of both the National Youth Orchestra of Great Britain and the Hallé Youth Orchestra, Ben’s performances have taken him to venues including the Royal Albert Hall for the BBC Proms, Barbican Centre, Royal Festival Hall and Bridgewater Hall in Manchester.

Alongside earlier studies with Katy Jones, Ben was a member of the Glasshouse International Centre for Music’s Young Musician Programme in Gateshead, studying classical and jazz styles.

He has also appeared side-by-side with the London Sinfonietta at the Queen Elizabeth Hall as part of the Manson Ensemble, as well as concerts with the Royal Academy of Music Symphony Orchestra, under the baton of Ryan Wigglesworth and Edward Gardner.

Ben Haslam plays a Rath Custom R6 trombone, with a red brass bell and a yellow brass slide.
