Based in Melbourne, Australia, Andrew Short has served for several years as principal bass trombonist of the Melbourne Staff Band of the Salvation Army, and is a fully qualified musician in the Australian Defence Force.
Andrew is an active freelance performer, working across professional theatre, jazz, orchestra, opera, brass band and chamber music settings. He is also head of music performance at Ivanhoe Grammar School, where he leads a dynamic and diverse music programme.
Andrew began his musical journey at the age of eight in The Salvation Army, Australia, where he developed a deep-rooted passion for brass playing.
He studied euphonium, classical bass trombone and jazz trombone at the Adelaide Conservatorium of Music, and later earned a Master’s degree through Excelsia College in Sydney, Australia.
Andrew Short plays a Rath Custom R9 650 detachable flare yellow bell, yellow slide, red brass tuning slide, and a no 9 lead pipe. He also has a nickel bell/bronze slide, and a red bell/nickel tuning slide setup.
