Tredegar trombone section joins the Rath Pack

It was celebration time for one of the UK’s leading brass bands recently, following the announcement of a partnership with renowned English musical instrument manufacturer, Rath Trombones.

Tredegar Band’s recent concert appearance at the Llandaff Cathedral not only saw the Welsh champion join forces with its Cathedral Festival Chorus and the Cardiff Bach Choir for a festival premiere performance of Sir John Rutter’s ‘Gloria’, but also that of the new link with Rath Trombones, bespoke instruments hand-made at the company’s factory in Yorkshire and played all over the world.

The connection sees the team of Ryan Richards, Ioan Jones and Mark Winstone now perform on Rath R4, R6 and R9 models instruments, all of which have been tailored to their individual needs following visits to the Rath factory in Honley and detailed consultations with sales manager and senior technician Tim Sidwell, and founder Michael Rath. 

The partnership has been developed by Tredegar’s chairperson David Thomas, who explained that the Welsh band’s artistic outlook reflected Rath Trombones' own desire to lead through excellence.

“Right from the start that has been the key,” he said. “Rath Trombones has a global reputation for bespoke quality, and we were delighted that they felt Tredegar displayed the same attributes in exploring new musical avenues.  Having our section perform on Rath Trombones is a huge endorsement of that.
