Ross Bahlaj joins the Rath Pack

Rath Trombones has welcomed the addition of acclaimed Scottish trombonist, Ross Bahlaj, to its flourishing roster of Artists.

Ross’ performing career has been underpinned by his position as principal trombonist of the cooperation band (formerly CWS Glasgow/Scottish Co-op), where he has served since 2018.

During his time with the cooperation band – Scotland’s most successful and highest-ranked band – he has performed on prestigious stages all over Europe, contributing to the band’s continued success at the national and international level.

Reflecting on his new role as a Rath Artist, Ross Bahlaj commented: “I’m truly honoured and excited to become a Rath Artist.

“Rath Trombones has always been a brand I admired for its craftsmanship and attention to detail, so being welcomed into the family feels like a milestone in my career. It’s inspiring to be associated with a company that supports Artists, and pushes the boundaries of instrument manufacturing.”

Ross began his brass band journey with the Kingdom Brass Youth Band in his native Fife. He studied music at the University of Glasgow, where he developed his skills and deepened his musical understanding.

Ross continued: “What impresses me most about my Rath trombone is the combination of warmth, clarity, and flexibility it offers. The response is so immediate and consistent across the entire range, which allows me to focus purely on making music. Its customisable design also means it’s perfectly tailored to my playing style, giving me the freedom and confidence to perform at my best in any setting.”

In addition to his performing career, Ross serves as the resident conductor of Annan Town Band and Annan Youth Band, where he brings his expertise and enthusiasm to supporting local musicians and nurturing young talent.

Beyond conducting, Ross is committed to music education and the future of brass playing in Scotland. He works as a brass instructor with Dumfries and Galloway Music Service, inspiring and mentoring the next generation of young musicians.

Ross Bahlaj plays a Rath Custom R6 trombone with a red brass bell, bronze slide and a 41B nickel silver leadpipe.
