Rath Artists at 2026 Brazilian Trombone Festival

Rath Artists Deb Scott, Karen Marston and Brett Baker recently enjoyed a week to remember at the 2026 Brazilian Trombone Festival in Fortaleza.

While at the event, the trio took part in a series of workshops, concerts, ensemble classes and full ensemble experiences.

Brett performed with the Wind Ensemble from the University of Fortaleza, the Symphony Orchestra and took part in a recital with piano, while Karen and Deb also played a piano recital and performed with the Symphony Orchestra.

Reflecting on the experience, Karen said: “We had an amazing time at the Brazilian Trombone Festival in Fortaleza. I’m so honoured to have had the opportunity to perform at this event for the second year.

“The Brazilian trombone community is so warm and welcoming, and we met so many wonderful musicians. Plus, it’s always a wonderful experience to play my beloved, bespoke Rath Custom R4 with my bestie, Deb Scott.”

Deb commented: “What a fabulous time it was in Fortaleza. I was fortunate to be able to perform the lyrical and beautiful Bruch Double Concerto with the University Orchestra along with Karen. It was my first concerto with my new Rath Artist mouthpiece that Greg Black helped me with, and I was very pleased with the sound.

“Our duo, TexiCali, also performed a fun recital, and I loved spending time with all the students, teaching a masterclass and hearing them play. Along with Brett Baker, we had an awesome RathPack, and loads of fun.”

Brett added: “It was great to meet up with Karen and Deb after working so well with them in Trombonanza Argentina last year. This was my third trip to Brazil, and just as memorable as previous trips. I’m looking forward to a return visit in the near future.”
