Luciano Soriano joins the Rath Pack

Rath Trombones has welcomed Californian trombonist, composer and educator Luciano Soriano to its growing roster of Artists.

Luciano, of Simi Valley, is pursuing a bachelor's degree in jazz trombone at the Juilliard School. He has participated in the Vail Jazz Workshop (2021) and the Monterey Jazz Festival Next Gen Jazz Orchestra (2022, 2023). In the May 2023 issue of Downbeat Magazine, he received two awards for his big band arrangement of Thelonius Monk’s We See and original composition, Embrace. 

Luciano is also a previous winner of the International Trombone Association’s Carl Fontana Competition.

Reflecting on his new association as a Rath Artist, Luciano said: “Becoming a Rath artist is something that I have dreamed of for years. I was in between horns before finding my first Rath trombone at a shop in LA and was in love from the first note.

 “Rath Trombones help me get the job done, whether I'm playing with my quintet or in a big band setting. It’s a pleasure to be playing these wonderful instruments.”

Luciano has two albums under his leadership, entitled Fusion Five and New Places, Old Faces. His latest release, New Places, Old Faces features original compositions based on his experience during his first year in NYC.

The album comprises a line-up composed of Juilliard musicians, and focuses on themes of struggle, liberation, and hope. New Places, Old Faces is out now on all streaming platforms and for sale through Luciano’s website.
