Rath Trombones has welcomed the addition of Kevin (KJ) Jackson to its growing roster of Artists.
The Vancouver-based trombonist, recording artist and educator is known across Western Canada and recognised for his versatility in orchestral, jazz, and commercial music settings.
Kevin performs with a multitude of ensembles including: The Purple Comet Orchestra; Symphony 21 (where he serves as principal trombone and founding board member); The Vancouver Jazz Orchestra; Jaelem Bhate Jazz Orchestra; Chris Berner Big Band; and Bonnie Northgraves “Big Loud”.
With his musicianship also spanning traditional jazz, funk, and fusion, KJ’s playing is featured on multiple recordings such as Hymns and On the Edge with the Jaelem Bhate Jazz Orchestra, and Acoustic Alloy with the Vancouver Brass Collective.
Commenting on his new association as a Rath Artist, Kevin said:
“Becoming a Rath Artist filled me with a real sense of joy, pride, and gratitude. I’ve admired so many of the players on this roster for years, so to now be part of that community feels incredibly special.
“At the same time, it brings a strong sense of responsibility. It motivates me to keep growing, to play at my very best, and to represent both the instrument and the Rath family with authenticity and care.”
Kevin continued: “I’ve always been struck by how intuitive these instruments feel. When the setup is right, there’s a genuine sense of connection between player and horn, it almost feels as though the instrument anticipates what I want to do and responds effortlessly.
“Beyond their exceptional playability and sound, Rath trombones are visually stunning; you can truly see the craftsmanship, care, and precision that goes into every detail.”
Commercially, KJ records for film, television and media, and is the brass recording artist with Pandemonia Music. His broad stylistic fluency is further informed by studies with leading artists including Andy Martin, Wycliffe Gordon, and Delfeayo Marsalis.
A dedicated educator, KJ serves as Director of Bands at West Point Grey Academy in Vancouver, where he leads a comprehensive programme including concert band, jazz ensemble, and music theory.
He also maintains a private studio for brass students and is committed to fostering musical excellence through both performance and education.
KJ holds a Master of Music in Orchestral Trombone from the University of British Columbia, as well as a Bachelor of Music and Bachelor of Education from the University of Lethbridge.
