Rath Trombones has welcomed the addition of acclaimed performer Josh Scalf to its roster of Artists.
Josh is a versatile and in-demand trombonist based in Nashville, known for his keen attention to detail and his ability to seamlessly integrate into any musical setting. With a passion for music that spans genres, Josh has earned a reputation as a sought-after musician in Nashville’s vibrant music scene.
Since moving to Nashville, Josh has performed and recorded with some of the biggest names in music including Dolly Parton, Elton John, Brett Eldredge, Smokey Robinson, Thomas Rhett, Jake Owen, Chris Janson, Cory Wong and many more. His versatility was highlighted on Keb’Mo’s Grammy Award-winning album Oklahoma, showcasing his ability to adapt to a wide range of musical styles.
Commenting on his new role as a Rath Artist, Josh Scalf said: “I’m thrilled to be included amongst such an amazing group of musicians already playing Rath Trombones.
“It’s an honour to be a member of such an elite and influential group, and I look forward to working alongside them to promote fine musicianship made by exceptional people playing excellent instruments.”
Beyond his extensive studio work, Josh has also showcased his talents on major television performances. He has appeared on NBC’s Fourth of July Special with Brett Eldredge, CMT’s Crossroads with Smokey Robinson and Cam, and Artist of the Year with Thomas Rhett. Josh continued: “With my new R2, I love how easy it is to manipulate the sound. It makes playing different styles easy, where I can finesse the sound from silky and beautiful to aggressive and brash with just the approach I take.
“It plays great on mic and sounds fantastic on recordings, works well in a bone section, solo, or in a pop horn section, letting me blend with ease or stand out when I wish to. All that and it is also incredibly well built, with a fit and finish that looks fantastic on stage.”
Outside of performing, Josh is passionate about education. He previously served as the Associate Musical Director at Bay High School in Panama City, Florida, and regularly presents clinics for high school and collegiate students, sharing his experience and knowledge with the next generation of musicians.
Josh plays a Rath R2 Custom trombone with a yellow brass bell with screw rim; yellow brass tuning slide; yellow brass gooseneck; nickel silver hand slide; #2 nickel silver leadpipe.
