Francesco Cangi joins the Rath Pack

Rath Trombones has welcomed Italian trombonist, multi-instrumentalist and composer Francesco Cangi to its flourishing roster of Artists.
Born and raised in Florence, Francesco began his musical journey in childhood.
His academic foundation in jazz has since served as a springboard for a diverse career spanning jazz, pop and electronic music.
Francesco performs and tours extensively as both a trombonist and multi-instrumentalist, collaborating with a wide range of prominent Italian and international artists.
Performance and recording credits include work with Elisa, Alfa, Ultimo, Roy Paci, Irene Grandi, Arisa, Fabrizio Bosso, Nico Gori, Billy Cobham, Cristina Donà, and Fabio Morgera, among many others.
As a bandleader, he’s the founder, producer and composer of Francesco Cangi & The Lonely Rockets, a project designed to bridge the gap between high-level jazz training and a pop-rock background.
The project’s sound is defined as Nu Jazz with a cinematic rock edge, dominated by deep grooves and powerful melodies.
Commenting on his new association as a Rath Artist, Francesco said: “I have always dreamed of being able to try a Rath. When I had the opportunity to visit the factory, I met Tim Sidwell and tried so many trombones, which was a joy, and a dream come true.
“Aesthetically, Raths are a feast for the eyes. Crucially, from the very first time I played my R1, I felt a solidity in the sound that I had never experienced before. I immediately fell in love, and I’m still amazed every time I play it because it has an incredible resilience.
"When I play loudly, it supports me and never backs down, and when I play much softer, it has an incredible warmth. My Rath is a truly wonderful creation.”
Primarily self-taught in his early years, Francesco discovered the trombone in his late teens and quickly entered the professional circuit.
He formally trained at the jazz conservatories of Bologna and Rovigo, graduating with honours under the mentorship of Massimo Morganti.
