There was delight for Rath Artist Chris Thomas recently, following an historic victory with Flowers Band at the 2026 European Brass Band Championships.
Chris, principal trombonist, was part of two breathtaking performances with Flowers, which came out on top in both the set work and own choice elements of the elite competition, under the baton of musical director, Paul Holland.
The result at the event in Linz, Austria, was made even more special as Flowers was making its debut at the European Brass Band Championship, having qualified as the English representative following its result as best English band in the 2024 British Open Championship.
Flowers' success came during a busy weekend for Rath Trombones at the European Championship. There was also success for Tredegar Town Band, with its section of Rath Artists, as the Welsh outfit earned an impressive third place under the leadership of conductor, Ian Porthouse.
Meanwhile, there was an extensive selection of Rath Trombones available to try on the exhibition stand.

Rath even came to the rescue for one young player with Smørås Skolemusikk, when she turned up in a panic after her instrument was lost on a flight. Tim Sidwell, from the Rath team, ensured all was well and she was able to continue with her performance.
