Rath Trombones has welcomed jazz trombonist, performer and educator Andrea Andreoli to its flourishing roster of Artists.
Andrea won the audition for principal trombone with the renowned Norrbotten Big Band (Sweden) and has collaborated with many leading figures in the international jazz scene, including WDR Big Band, Billy Cobham, Incognito, Maria Schneider, Vince Mendoza, Marshall Gilkes, Fred Hersch, Elliot Mason, Lew Soloff, Bob Mintzer, Bill Laurance, Randy Brecker, Erich Marienthal, Mike Mainieri, Dave Weckl, Paolo Fresu, Enrico Rava, Enrico Intra, and Tino Tracanna.
Commenting on his new association as a Rath Artist, Andrea said: “I’m genuinely very happy and honoured to become a Rath Artist. It’s a pleasure to be associated with such a respected brand and to join a roster of outstanding trombonists from around the world. For me, it feels like a natural step, as I’ve been consistently playing and enjoying the instrument”
Andrea continued: “What impresses me is the balance and responsiveness of the instrument. It feels very centred, stable in intonation, and extremely responsive in phrasing. It allows me to shape lines naturally and with great clarity.
“In professional situations — especially on louder stages or with powerful sound systems — I feel very comfortable and present. The feedback and projection are excellent, which gives me confidence and freedom while performing.”
Andrea earned his diploma in trombone from the “G. Verdi” Conservatory in Como,
studying with Pierluigi Salvi and Fulvio Clementi. He later completed a Master’s degree in jazz trombone at the “G. Verdi” Conservatory in Milan under the guidance of Giovanni Falzone.
Andrea has performed regularly at major jazz festivals in Italy and abroad, including London Jazz Festival, Torino Jazz Festival, Bergamo Jazz, Bülach Jazz Festival, Malta Jazz Festival, and Freiberg Jazz Tage, among others.
His discography features a wide range of national and international collaborations, with recording credits alongside WDR Big Band, Fred Hersch, Vince Mendoza, Bob Mintzer, Bill Laurance, Norrbotten Big Band, Vein Trio, Mina, Malika Ayane, Mario Biondi, and Francesco Guccini.
In 2020, Andrea received a Grammy Award nomination for his work on Begin Again by Fred Hersch and the WDR Big Band.
He is a sought-after studio musician, regularly contributing to film scores, TV soundtracks, commercial jingles, musicals, and a wide range of music productions. In the pop field, he has toured internationally with Malika Ayane and Mario Biondi. In 2024, he joined Billy Cobham’s European tour, performing in the Spectrum 50 and Time Machine projects.
He was awarded the Gorni Kramer Prize (2019) and was honoured with the title of Knight of the Order of Merit of the Italian Republic.
Andrea currently serves as professor of jazz trombone at the “G. Verdi” Conservatory in Milan.
Andrea performs on a Rath Custom R2 trombone with a yellow brass bell and main tuning slide, and a nickel silver slide.
