Maarten Combrink
Dutch jazz trombonist Maarten Combrink is the solo-trombonist of the renowned Metropole Orkest. He gained recognition as a soloist after winning the ITA JJ Johnson and Carl Fontana jazz trombone competitions in the USA.
Maarten regularly performs with the Jasper Blom Bigband, Jazz Orchestra of the Concertgebouw, All Ellington, Peter Beets New Jazz Orchestra, Dutch Swing College Band and Gerardo Rosales.
With the Metropole Orkest, Maarten has played and recorded with Richard Bona, Avishai Cohen, Jacob Collier and Snarky Puppy.
As a bandleader, Maarten leads the Maarten Combrink Quintet, which is set to release its debut album in 2026. He is co-leader of trombone quartet Tinase, which won the Kai Winding Trombone Competition.
Maarten studied in Rotterdam and Amsterdam, recently completing his master’s degree with the highest possible distinction.
After his studies he spent three months in New York, where he took lessons from Marshall Gilkes, Elliot Mason and Steve Davis.
Maarten Combrink performs on a Rath Custom R2 with a yellow brass bell, slide, tuning slide and gooseneck.
