Redefining "student" instruments - meet the new JP/Rath trombones
The UK firm John Packer, who are very well known for their excellent range of student instruments asked us to put our design and manufacturing expertise into a new student trombone that would set new standards both in terms of playability and quality.
Both of these instruments changed traditional ideas and perceptions about what a student trombone is capable of doing.
The new JP331/Rath and JP332/Rath trombones are the first Bb/F trombones in the range. As with the first two models, we've taken a lot of time and care to make sure that not only are these the best student Bb/F trombones available, but also to make sure that they're incredibly user-friendly for younger players.Take a look at the Trombone Forum for some thoughts on the new Rath student trombone from players who tried the JP231/Rath at the International Trombone Festival.
Of course, these aren't just student trombones - Carol Jarvis used the JP231/Rath when she toured with Seal in 2009, where the horn section proved that "student" instruments aren't just for students!
One of the key features that we wanted to have are the highest possible manufacturing standards - in fact, just as high as we have with our other trombones. Mick is working with the technicians, training them with the same techniques as we use in our workshop, to the same standards.
This isn't just a one-off event either, our involvement is on an ongoing basis. There aren't any shortcuts with the materials that are used in the trombones either. Everything is checked at every stage along the line to make sure that Mick's confident to put his own name on it!
Putting together this high level of design, manufacturing, quality control and consistency is something that's not been done before and the results speak for themselves.
