Leadpipes
Choice of leadpipe is a very important factor in determining the sound and particularly the response of an instrument. Various different leadpipes are available for each Rath trombone in three materials: brass, nickel silver and silver. Our standard leadpipes are produced in brass, whilst nickel silver gives a more brilliant sound and silver a darker, denser sound quality.
For most players, the standard taper leadpipe in brass will be the best choice for their setup. During our research and development, we spend extensive periods developing leadpipes to ensure that they will be the ideal match for your Rath trombone.
In addition to our standard leadpipes, we alo have leadpipe options based on the standard taper that are more focused (stamped "A") and more open (stamped "B") giving you more choices.
It is important to bear in mind that the leadpipe should also be a suitable match not only for your trombone but also for your mouthpiece as well.
If you're using a larger cup mouthpiece, you may find that you prefer a leadpipe with a more open taper and feel. If you're using a mouthpiece with a shallower cup you may prefer a tighter more focused leadpipe.
If you're changing your mouthpiece, a change of leadpipe may also be appropriate.
Here are the leadpipe models that are currently available for our trombones. Each one can be ordered in brass, nickel silver or silver.
