Rath Pack

The Rath Pack is a collaboration between three of the world's leading trombonists: Mark Nightingale, Bert Boeren and Marc Godfroid, for a two night residency at Pizza Express Jazz Club, London in November 2003. The Rath Pack CD was recorded live on the second night and features eight tracks of unique arrangements put together for the group. The group reformed for the ITF 2006, held in Birmingham, UK, proving to be one of the festival's highlights.

Individually, each of the Rath Pack's members musical achievements are outstanding in their own right. Bert Boernen's credits include the Jazz Orchestra of the Concertgebouw, Masters of Swing, Frits Landesbergen Baileo Big Band and performances with Scott Hamilton, Warren Vaché, Clark Terry, Urbie Green, and many others.

Marc Godfroid's CV is extremely extensive, and includes Two Bones and Big Band, with Bill Watrous together with the WDR Big Band, Bob Mintzer, and has been a member of the SWR Big Band since 1995, appearing with Slide Hampton, Frank Foster and Clark Terry amongst many others.

Mark Nightingale started playing trombone at the age of nine. At 15 he won the Don Lusher Award given by the BBC and became lead trombone with the National Youth Jazz Orchestra a year later. During six years with NYJO he also graduated from Trinity College of Music and formed the 5-trombone group Bonestructure.

He has appeared at international festivals alongside Carl Fontana, Wycliffe Gordon, Jiggs Whigham, Urbie Green, Slide Hampton, Bart van Lier, Bert Boeren, and many others. Mark has been featured with artists as diverse as Frank Sinatra, Cleo Laine, London Brass, Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, Sting and Shakatak. He has penned many compositions and big band arrangements, plus several books of trombone studies.
